Keef Richard's Bangers and Mash

Article Image

I've been reading Keith (Keef) Richards autobiography and have been savoring every page. As a reader, I feel part of his adventure and, truthfully, I don't want it to end! I was pleasantly suprised that towards the end of the book he puts down his recipe for bangers and mash, a traditional British dish known for being "pub grub" or traditional fair in working class homes. What a treasure! Somehow this recipe seems far more personal than all the scandels that hit tabloids throughout his life.

Chicken Old Ladies On A Bus

Artical Image

There are 3 whole Google pages of results for this recipe. But still I felt compelled to include this version because it comes from an Atlanta Junior League Cookbook (Atlanta Cooknotes) and includes lots of good cooking tips and anecdotal stories about Atlanta landmarks. I never heard of it before reading this cookbook- and maybe you haven't either! The recipe was developed from a conversation overheard between two old ladies on a bus.

Green Your Holiday Party

Article Image

Holiday season is coming up! And as usual there will be lots and lots of parties in our future- parties that we are planning at work, for clients, and parties in our own homes.  So why not try and GREEN your party this year? If you already recycle, try and punch it up by buying compostable plates, cups and “plasticware”.  It’s really not expensive and only requires you to plan ahead. But it’s hard to plan ahead! I know. That’s why its better to do it now. You can get a pack of 50 serveware plates made of Bagasse for 9.99!  It’s a 100% biodegradable and compostable alternative to plastic or styrofoam. Bagasse is biomass remaining after sugarcane stalks are crushed for sugar processing. Find it here: http://www.pristineplanet.com

Support Metro Eateries Who Support Our Farmers

Article Image

Atlantans love to go out and eat. And why shouldn’t we? This is a first-rate foodie town. I love to show off our fine dining to out-of-town guests or sharing a new gem of a restaurant with a friend.  This weekend, when you are dining out (and more than half of us will), why not choose an Atlanta restaurant that supports local farmers?

Did you know there are over 100 organic farms in Georgia? Did you know that if you just $10 per week on Georgia-grown produce (from any source, not just directly from producers), more than $1.9 billion could be pumped back into the state's economy? (Source: Creative Loafing http://tiny.cc/rmmf0)

7 Dollar Pickles

Lilburn outdoor farmers marketLast Friday was the day I dipped my toe into buying local grocery items and it was met with a few hiccups. Of course The Mostess Hostess brings high quality, local products to my Atlanta gift baskets but I wanted to apply my business model to my regular life.  I wanted to walk to talk.

Early last week I ordered on line from a local farm 1 dozen fresh eggs and 1 gallon of fresh milk, lightly pasteurized.  I filled out the online form, pressed enter and got a screen that said “See you on delivery day!” Delivery day was Friday at Toco Hills between 2:30p and 3:30p.  And JUST to be sure I called said farm to make sure they had my order. The man I talked to couldn’t say for certain but if I got a screen that said “See you on delivery day!” I would be set.
